WeMax Dice Review – Just Another Gimmick?

The WeMax Dice is an all-in-one LED-based model that’s capable of outputting a pretty decent 700 ANSI lumens. This is while also having a lamp life of up to 30,000 hours. Do some math and you’ll quickly realize this model offers some great longevity over some alternative choices. There’s even a built-in battery that has a max battery life of up to 3 hours for when you aren’t near a power source.

WeMax DiceThis model could be a fantastic option if you’re currently in the market for a new modern projector. I’ll take a wild guess and assume that you are, since why else are you here reading this article. But what are the negatives you should be aware of before making such a purchase? I’ll try to review all of the technical aspects and explain what terms and details actually mean to help you be more prepared. I can start with the overall design and then move through all of the specifications.

The majority of projectors are plain boring rectangles. That isn’t necessarily bad though, companies get a lot of use out of that shape. In fact, WeMax does have rectangular projectors if that’s more your style. But you’re an eccentric individual looking for something as unique as you, right? Well good luck because nothing is as unique and precious as you. But this model does have a pretty cool appearance. There’s even a convenient handle (fake leather) to make it easier to transport around.

Dice DesignYou’re probably on the internet a lot and are well aware that photos can be a bit misleading. You know all the “filter beautiful” people I’m referring to. Well, they’re beautiful on the inside (maybe?) so that’s something. But the WeMax Dice 700 projector is actually much smaller than you may think from the photos. Maybe you’re familiar with that as well on your favorite dating app. But the dimensions measure just 6.1″ x 4.9″ x 6.3″ and the entire projector only weighs 4.8 lbs. That may be far smaller than photos lead you to believe.

    Lamp Life & Brightness

On projectors there’s a universal brightness rating called ANSI, which is an abbreviation, but it’s boring so I won’t explain it in full detail. Generally, companies have their projectors rated this way which makes it easier to determine brightness between brands and models. Consider it a “true” brightness rating compared to other “lux lumens” ratings you may see. Check out this short YouTube video to see this Dice projector in action.

The WeMax Dice projector has an official rating of 700 ANSI, which is actually quite high for such a small device. This is enough brightness to be used while there’s some decent light in your room. Like, while the sun is out but your blinds or curtains are closed. Of course any projector will look it’s best in a blackened room. However, it’s nice having some flexibility with when you can use your projector.

I also mentioned this model is an LED-based system. That means the lamp life is much longer than traditional light bulb projectors, up to 30,000 hours. Which in turn means you won’t have to buy pricey replacement bulbs like some of those other traditional systems. Using the projector 5 hours a day, everyday, would mean the lamp could last around 16 years of use. And using the projector less than 5 hours a day, every single day, would extend that number even further. I think most people would be quite happy with the 700 ANSI rating on the DICE.

    Native & Supported Resolution

Here’s where things can sometimes get a little tricky to understand, since some companies use two separate ratings when talking about resolution. The main specification you want to be looking for is called “native resolution” though. This is what the projector is actually internally rendering. Be weary of products that only talk about the “supported resolution” in comparison. Chances are these are running at a lower resolution and will appear blurrier than a native machine.

Projector Throw DistanceThankfully, the WeMax Dice model has a native resolution of 1920×1080, which is true 1080p. This gives you Full HD for all of your favorite movies, video games, and streaming apps. It means visual details will appear sharper and more defined versus a lower resolution projector. If you care about having the clearest picture quality, I’d definitely recommend getting something that’s native 1080p.

    Device Compatibility

It’s great having a projector that offers impressive performance. But what good are the capabilities if your devices don’t work with the machine? The WeMax Dice is pretty minimal in terms of what inputs are available. But it does have the most important and essential, an HDMI port. There’s only one of these ports but since this model is meant to be portable it’s totally fine.

The HDMI is what you’ll use for all of your modern devices. This is the port that’s required by an Apple TV, Amazon FireStick, and Roku devices. If you’re a gamer all of the modern game systems like the PS5, Switch, and XBOX utilize HDMI. I think the majority of your newer media devices should work here and be supported. As long as HDMI is involved, you’ll be golden.

    Dice Connectivity

There’s a USB 2.0 port as well that can be used to playback video files directly from a USB flash drive. You can download a number of apps from the Google Play Store on the projector to help extend this functionality. Be aware, you may need to download a file manager app as well to access the videos.

    Visual Alignment

When you setup a new projector you have to make certain adjustments to sharpen and level the picture. This is typically done using a focus wheel and keystone settings. These allow you to fine-tune the image to make it as clear and level as possible. If you don’t do these steps correctly, your image will appear blurry and angled against the wall.

WEMAX Dice Focus AlignmentThankfully the DICE projector automates this entire process by utilizing an autofocus and auto-alignment system. This means the projector can adjust everything by itself to give you the best picture possible, even if the projector is pointed at an angle from the wall. Having these things automated just makes your life easier and really makes this model even more convenient to use. Though you can manually adjust these settings further to fine-tune your image.

    Smart Features

Having “smart” features can also make things more convenient. For starters, there’s Android TV 9.0 built into the machine. This means you can use Google Assistance to control several aspects, simply by using voice commands. There’s even a dedicated button on the remote to activate this. Just press the button and give a vocal command. Not interested? That’s okay, you don’t have to use it, but it can be a super handy way to control or search for things.

Dice Android Smart ProjectorFinally, there’s some various wireless functionality included as well. You’ll have access to some streaming apps on the projector, which makes this even more of an all-in-one machine. However, I should mention that you may need to use a Fire Stick, Apple TV, or Roku to use Netflix as there isn’t a built-in app for that. The wireless feature also allows you to mirror the screen from your phone or tablet without needing any extra cables. This mainly works with Android devices. However, some people have said you can download a 3rd-party app on the WeMax Dice to extend that functionality to iOS devices. It can be nice to do when you have family and friends over to share silly videos or photos together.

    Audio System

A lot of projectors tend to struggle in the audio department because of their limited internal space. The WeMax Dice however comes equipped with a decent set of 2x3W speakers. The way they’re positioned helps fill your room with a richer audio experience. There’s even Dolby Digital Plus support to take advantage of even better audio encodings.

If you want to take your audio experience further there’s Bluetooth 5.1 support here for external speakers. If you have a Bluetooth sound bar that would be able to be paired with the WeMax Dice projector as well. But wait, that’s not all. If you own Bluetooth headphones like the popular Apple AirPods or similar ones, you can also pair them to the machine for some private listening.

Otherwise, there’s also a 3.5mm audio out port that can be used for low-latency audio. Another way would be to run the HDMI through your home audio receiver, if you’re aware how to do that with yours. There’s also a device called an “audio extractor” that can split audio into multiple common types, so you do have some options to have a bigger cinema experience.

This model pumps out 700 ANSI lumens in such a small package. It supports HDR10 video content, automatically adjusts your image, has a lamp life of up to 30K hours, and much more. I don’t think there are too many other products that can compare or compete with the DICE.

Projector Whats IncludedI should also mention that the WeMax Dice projector normally plugs into a standard power outlet to run, but it DOES have a built-in battery. This would allow you to easily take the projector outside for an outdoor movie night. Maybe you could have friends and family come over and play a movie or video games on the side of your house, or sheet, or some kind of projection screen. If you’re looking for an all-in-one projector I’d absolutely recommend considering WeMax Dice 700 model.
